Brookwood Baptist Health is dedicated to providing advanced medicine combined with compassion and kindness. Our Supportive & Palliative Care Program uniquely focuses on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness. Registered
with the National Palliative Care Registry, our program takes a holistic approach and offers emotional, social and spiritual support for the patients as well as family members.
Q: What is palliative care? Palliative care is comprehensive treatment for the discomfort, symptoms and stress of serious illness. This specialized type of care treats both the patient and family - physically, socially, emotionally and/or spiritually to relieve any painful symptoms.

Coordination of care among our health care providers
Management of symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, constipation, nausea, loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping and overall pain
Q: Who provides palliative care? Our team of nurses, social workers, chaplains, nutritionists, and pharmacists works directly with the physician to provide treatment throughout the patient's illness.
Q: When is it the right time for palliative care? No matter the diagnosis, palliative care can occur at anytime, even during treatment. Serious illnesses can cause exhaustion, anxiety and depression and will affect your quality of life. There's no reason to wait.
Q: Is palliative care different from hospice care? Yes. Hospice care is for patients approaching the final stage of life. Palliative Care is appropriate for any stage of a serious illness whether the patients is at home or in the hospital. Unlike hospice, patients can receive palliative care during treatment. Ask about our bereavement program.
Q: How can I receive palliative care? If you have no already been referred for the team's services, ask your doctor, case manager, social worker or nurse for a referral. Our team is available 7 days a week.
