Cancer Committee
Sophisticated Treatment in a Personalized Environment
The Comprehensive Cancer Committees at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center is a multidisciplinary group of physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals who oversee the cancer program and coordinate cancer care for our patients. Our programs
provide a network of oncology professionals, services, and care to each individual patient and family with an emphasis on delivering the most sophisticated treatment available while continuing to provide a caring and personalized environment.
The Committee's overall goal is to make every aspect of the cancer program excellent in the scope of prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cancer in compliance with the standards of the American College of Surgeons
Commission on Cancer, the College of American Pathology and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.
The Committee sponsors prevention and early detection events, cancer education activities for physicians and other healthcare providers, as well as the public, and interdisciplinary conferences for coordination of patient care. Weekly Cancer Conferences
(Tumor Boards) are held with individual cancer cases presented for recommendation of treatment planning. Monthly Stereotactic Breast Conferences are held to review breast biopsy cases for concordance between the mammography report, pathological
findings and surgical outcomes. It is a learning activity for the physicians, mammography technicians, breast health nurses, and residents, and well as a quality indicator of breast diagnostic services.
The cancer programs led by the Comprehensive Cancer Committee at Brookwood Baptist Medical Center are accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.
