Infertility Services at Brookwood Baptist Health

  • In vitro fertilization (IVF) – This procedure involves removing eggs and sperm from the parents and combining them in the lab. A fertilized egg can then be implanted in the mother’s womb, or in that of her surrogate, or may even be frozen for future use.
  • Intracytoplasmic sperm injections (ICSI) – Compared with typical IVF, which uses several hundred thousand sperm, this procedure involves injecting a single sperm into the mother’s egg, to circumvent the issues of low sperm count or quality.
  • Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) – This procedure combines IVF with a pre-selection component. The objective is to prevent chromosomal abnormalities and certain genetic disorders from interfering with the implantation, pregnancy or healthy development of the baby.
  • Donor egg procedures – When a woman who is trying to become pregnant doesn’t have viable eggs, this procedure can be appropriate. Healthy mature eggs from a donor can be fertilized through IVF and implanted in the mother’s uterus with a minimally invasive procedure.
  • Treatment for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) – This endocrine disorder is a common cause for fertility problems. The ovaries appear enlarged with small cysts. Reproductive endocrinologists may treat the condition with a fertility pill, medication or surgical procedure.
