Cardiothoracic surgeons are diversely trained and highly experienced in heart and chest surgery. Their high-level of skill allows them to operate on the heart, lungs, esophagus, diaphragm, blood vessels, and other organs in the chest. These physicians have a higher level of education and offer a degree of expertise found only in the most advanced of hospitals.

The cardiac surgeons on our medical staff are experts in traditional open heart surgeries; however, they are also leaders in innovative procedures such as minimally invasive techniques. Utilizing these newer techniques allow our surgeons to operate on patients who have traditionally been ineligible due to age or a health condition. Minimally invasive procedures require smaller incisions and typically allow you to recover more quickly than with traditional open-heart surgery. Some of the other benefits of minimally invasive techniques may include:

  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Less blood loss
  • Less pain after surgery
  • Less (and smaller) scarring
  • Quicker return to normal activity
  • Fewer complications
  • Decreased risk of infection
