SPECIAL DELIVERY! The Doctor Behind the Roses

Aug 5, 2019

Dr. Mark Adams, Internist with Brookwood Baptist, brings healing to others in more ways than one.

Not only is he a physician and current medical director of rehabilitation services, but he is also a skilled gardener of an assortment of roses, which he brings to share with many across Brookwood Baptist.

“He is so nice when he comes to drop them off,”

Leslie Noto, patient access and front desk hostess said. “He knows all the names of the roses and the patients love them.”

When traveling the hospital, it’s not uncommon to see roses at the front desk, in the administration suite and certainly on the rehab floor, where Dr. Adams does most of his work.

“Dr. Adams, how many types of roses do you have?” one employee asked as he visited the rehab gym. He responded and said he was currently tending to over 40 different types of roses.

He said, “I have been growing roses for over 30 years, but this group has come up over the last three years.”

Adams admits that a motivator for him sharing the fruits of his gardening labor with his hospital family is to see the smiles on so many faces, but it extends even to patients.

“I dropped some off to a patient who was having a hard time and it brightened her day,” he said.

While Dr. Adams, likely, won’t ever know how many conversations his roses has started or where the fragrance of his roses have traveled, one thing is certain is that his love for gardening has helped employees and patients alike.

Brittney, an employee at Brookwood Baptist, was visiting the front desk when he was bringing new roses for the week and Dr. Adams surprised her with roses as well.

“They were the most beautiful orange roses. I started to keep them to myself,” she said in a smile. “But, instead I took them home to my grandmother and it made her day! She thought it was nice that he took the time out to share his gift with others, but she quickly reminded me when you are gifted like that - sharing that gift is what it’s all about."
